Leading mobile network service provider Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.

According to Dr. James Myers, Board Chairman of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, ESG principles remain at the core of the company’s values, stating that ensuring the sustainability of Econet’s shared world and business, effective stakeholder management and engagement, as well as adhering to sound environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles remained at the core of their values”. Dr Myers added that they have engaged in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Accelerator Program under the United Nations Global Compact to integrate SDGs into their corporate framework thereby solidifying their footprint in the ESG space.

“The business implemented a robust staff wellness program covering six pillars that include emotional, physical, financial, medical, occupational, and spiritual dimensions. These aspects are designed to provide a supportive work environment. Since its inception, the Group has supported it’s CSI implementing partner, Higherlife Foundation, to empower the next generation through deep investments in education from early childhood development to tertiary education. The foundation funds scholarship programs, conducts training, mentorship and strengthens local institutions including schools and orphanages,” said Dr.  Myers

The company’s efforts in sustainability and social responsibility have solidified its position in the ESG space, setting a positive example for other businesses in the region.
