In a commendable achievement for Zimbabwe and the continent at large, Shamiso Mtisi, Deputy Director and Environmental Lawyer at the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), has been appointed to represent Africa on the Accreditation Expert Panel (AEP) for Article 6.4 of the Paris Agreement under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC UN).
The AEP plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of standards and procedures for accrediting operational entities involved in the validation and verification of projects and programs of activities under the Article 6.4 mechanism. This mechanism is pivotal in facilitating international cooperation in the fight against climate change.
Environmental advocacy group, ZELA, expressed its elation at Mtisi’s appointment, seeing it not only as a personal triumph but also as a recognition of the organization’s tireless efforts in addressing climate change and advocating for climate justice.
