CLIMATE CHANGE FACTS

Tuesday marked a momentous occasion as the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife orchestrated a remarkable convergence of international commemorations at St. Albans Chiweshe Primary School in Buhera.

Under the overarching theme of “Harnessing Innovation for Climate Action and a Resilient Future,” the event seamlessly merged four different observances, amplifying their impact and fostering heightened environmental awareness.

The brainchild behind this record initiative, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife, recognized the urgency to enhance public awareness and empower communities to steward their natural resources amidst resource constraints. “The whole world is facing environmental challenges and crises including climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, as well as desertification, land and soil degradation, drought and deforestation and Zimbabwe is no exception. This calls for the whole of Government approach, strategic national and international cooperation to address different environmental challenges.

“With the urgent need to raise environmental awareness and build capacity of communities to manage their natural resources under constraint availability of resources, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Wildlife has combined four different World and Africa commemorations to increase the public reach and generate more impact and awareness in a resource efficient manner,” said the Ministry

By consolidating the International Day of Forests, World Wildlife Day, Africa Environment Day, and World Meteorological Day into a singular event, the Ministry sought to maximize outreach and catalyze meaningful change.

“In the face of climate change and growing demands, innovative approaches are crucial to ensure the sustainable management and utilization of forests for present and future generations. To enhance education and awareness on environmental and natural resources management issues, the Ministry seeks to host quadripartite environmental commemorations on the International Day of Forests, World Meteorological Day, World Wildlife Day and Africa Environment/Wangari Mathaai Day,” said the Ministry
