Mukuyu 2 well drilling imminent: Invictus Energy

Mukuyu 2 drill rig in Mbire

Invictus Energy, a company exploring for oil and gas in the Cabora Basa Basin in Muzarabani and Mbire Districts, Mashonaland Central, is set to start drilling it’s second well, Mukuyu 2 on September 17, the Management has announced.

“Our spud date (date of starting drilling) is 17 September. So we are a few days away. We expect that we should be done with this well from the date of start over a period of about six weeks, barring any unforeseen incidents,” the company’s local partner, Geo-Associate Managing Director Mr Paul Chimbodza.

The Mukuyu-2 well site where the Exallo Rig has already been mounted is about 7km from the Mukuyu-1 prospect, which had been drilled nearly 4km deep.

Invictus Energy drilled Mukuyu 1 but abandoned the well citing technical glitches. The company, however, claimed the results confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons, but without the fluid sample.

Chimbodza said they are spending US$20 million on Mukuyu-2 because they are confident of positive results.

The Australian Stock Exchange registered company recently announced the presence of light oil, gas-condensate and helium on the Mukuyu-1 well.

The Cabora Bassa Basin is the largest untested structure of its kind in Africa.
